Okay, so we had to listen to the DJ's uninspiring trance tunes for an hour past start ... but that is a concert. Once the lights went down, I knew it was Pandemonium time!
The set was minimal (Chris approved) and this was appropriate. The lighting was amazing and the use of graphic imagery really supported but didn't distract from the song in the mind. The costumes were original and sooo cool. Neil sounded amazing and the PSB persona was so exciting to witness live.
The set list was a perfect balance of new and favourites, with some surprizes that were exceptionally delightful. "Do I Have To" made a tasteful and heartful appearance, as did "King's Cross" and the dancers and choreography for "Jealousy" were beautiful and elegant. Neil's costume changes were intriguing ... loved the King's crown and cape do. They always know how to illustrate the landscape that their music occupies. Chris' clothing and cameo dance moment were great too ... look, he IS animate!!!! :)
My favourite inclusion was "Two Divided By Zero". All the songs were delivered with gusto and panache ... that's PSB in a nutshell: style and substance. I wish other artists could nail that as well as these two do. Neil once said he wanted to be a pop star because he wanted to be loved, it looked like a fun thing to be, and that he always knew he could do it. I love that appraisal. And he was dead right! The dancers were truly part of the pastiche here as well, and it was a sense of community presenting their music and sharing it with their audience. Yes ... I give it a 9.5 out of 10. The only thing I thought could have been better was the sound level, which may have been limited by the venue design. It was a bit loud and slightly distorted/clipped at points. Oh, and one more thing .. the digital visuals were perfect. I LIKED it etc.
