I have been a fan of I Mother Earth for well over a decade, and I was bummed to say the least when they stopped touring 8 years ago. I can never ever fault a band for doing what they love, and when they say what they wanted to say, to leave it at that. It was an absolute pleasure to hear that they returned to do a show in Toronto - the city of their roots. They even went to the effort of making cards for people who came to the show, so we could download a copy of their new song - much love.
The show was everything that I wanted in a reunion - a good mix of all of their work, and some of my favorite older songs. Jag was his usual self, sounding right at home on stage and with the band, with an incredible cadence and soul. In the new song "We Got the Love", he has a destructive solo that tore the roof off. I have seen the lead singer, Brian (who was the lead in the last two albums), with the band twice, and perhaps it is my memory, but he has never sounded better with the band. The new song has that I Mother Earth soul, and Brian has managed to find a serious persence in this band, while retaining the band's classic sound. Bruce (bass) has also managed to keep this element of funk that I love of the band. And Christian - I have always loved his writing/lyrics, and just to see/hear him play was my pleasure.
I have seen them, it was an amazing show, and I left totally satisfied.
