The bottom line is that the Toronto Argonauts are not a good team. The execution and originality on offense was disappointing. (No action across the middle??) Nor were the Edmonton Eskimoes much better, although, they did win the game.
As far as the presentation of the 'event'...we were part of a group and having the opportunity for the partial tour of the facility was fun. The way the stadium is now set up was interesting in that in past visits, the field had seemed 'far away'. With the fan zones and seating close to the field, the action was 'closer'.
Our seats were very comfortable (section 217). In fact, my 12 year old son remarked that the end zone seats were not where he would want to sit, with no backs on the seats, and, he would love to have the same seats for the Blue Jays.
The price of food, snacks and beverages is outrageous, I must say.
The atmosphere is something to work on. By the third quarter, there were exhortations from the public address system for NOISE. How the heck can anyone or group compete with the constant barrage of partial clips of music coming at us ALL THE TIME?? There's no point in even trying to make NOISE. (Also, it bothered my son that the music was reduced to a snippet with no chance to appreciate the song)
The point was well illustrated by the group called The Argonotes (?) seated in the end zone. Here was a group of musicians, at least three drummers and a platoon of horns, that had NO CHANCE to compete against the public address system. Do you think anyone would rather the public address over the musicians attempting to recreate the traditional football atmosphere?? So what chance do individuals have against that same constant interruption??
Again, the bottom line is the football team itself. My son and I have been to games in the past when the team was winning. We came away cold when the roof was open on cold days but happy because the team was a winner.
For goodness sake, let people create the atmoshere! Not the public address system!
The same at Blue Jay games. I remember a number of years ago, the players were saying they wanted fans to cheer. The next game I attended, as I went to my feet to start cheering, I was drowned out by the blast from the p.a. system. What's the point of trying??
